AI agents are suddenly everywhere.
Companies are racing to give AI the ability to take action, complete workflows, communicate with users, and perform work that once required a human.
But at Ember, we think there’s another question that matters just as much:
What does the intelligence behind the Agent actually understand?
Because giving AI the ability to act is only useful if it understands what it’s acting on.
And in healthcare staffing, context matters.
That’s why Ember Agent didn’t begin with an Agent.
We built the intelligence first.
First, We Taught Ember to Understand Healthcare Staffing
For the last three years, our U.S.-based AI engineering team has been training our own model to understand healthcare staffing.
That means understanding far more than a candidate’s name, specialty, or job title.
A healthcare staffing placement can depend on licensure, experience, location, shift, pay, availability, timing, facility requirements, candidate preferences, and dozens of other details.
But some of the most valuable information about a candidate isn’t sitting neatly inside an ATS field.
It’s inside the conversation.
A candidate might tell a recruiter:
“I need at least $2,200 a week.”
“I’m only looking in Florida now.”
“I can start in three weeks.”
“I’ll work nights, but I don’t want rotating shifts.”
“I’m not interested in that facility.”
Those details can completely change which opportunity is right for that person.
So teaching Ember to understand healthcare staffing also meant teaching it to understand the context inside conversations between recruiters and candidates.
Then, We Taught Ember to Match
Once Ember could understand the data and the conversation, the next step was teaching it how to use that intelligence.
That became our context-aware matching technology.
Traditional matching is largely dependent on what’s stored in a candidate profile.
But a profile is a snapshot.
A candidate isn’t.
Preferences change. Availability changes. Pay expectations change. Locations change. Timing changes.
Context-aware matching allows Ember to combine what the ATS knows about a candidate with what that candidate is actually saying now.
Instead of matching only against static profile data, Ember can account for the context that comes out naturally in conversation.
Most matching technology matches a profile. Ember matches a person.
But Finding the Opportunity Still Wasn’t Enough
Eventually, we realized we had solved only part of the problem.
Ember could understand the candidate.
It could identify a relevant opportunity.
But a recruiter still had to act on it.
They still had to see the match, reach out, get a response, understand what had changed, follow up, and keep the conversation moving.
Multiply that by hundreds or thousands of candidates and you eventually run into the same constraint:
Human capacity.
That led us to start asking a different question.
Instead of asking:
How can AI help recruiters work faster?
We started asking:
What work can AI actually take on?
So We Gave the Intelligence a Job
That is the evolution behind Ember Agent.
We took the healthcare staffing intelligence and context-aware matching technology we had spent years building and gave it the ability to act.
Today, Ember Agent can continuously work the candidate database.
It can engage and re-engage candidates, learn what they’re looking for through conversation, use that context when evaluating opportunities, act when relevant matches appear, and surface real interest back to the recruiting team.
The evolution is simple:
UNDERSTAND → MATCH → ACT
First, we taught Ember to understand.
Then, we taught it to match.
Now, we’ve given that intelligence a job.
Intelligence + Capacity
That’s how we think about Ember Agent today:
- Healthcare staffing super intelligence.
- Virtually unlimited work capacity.
- Delivered as a Digital Employee.
Not another piece of software recruiters have to remember to log into and manage.
Additional capacity that can continuously work alongside the recruiting team.
Because we believe the next generation of staffing technology will do more than make recruiters faster.
It will actually help carry the work.
We didn’t start with an Agent.
We built the intelligence first.
Now we’re putting it to work.
